Nobilia cover panels - 16 mm thickness
Cover panels in 16 mm thickness are the standard thickness in the Nobilia cover panel range and finish tall cabinets, highboards and sideboards at the top with a material edge 1.6 cm high. This thickness offers the widest selection because it is available in laminate and real lacquer and therefore covers all eight finish groups from matte decor to ultra-high gloss. The finishes beneath glass side panels and the Sakura design variant are also available exclusively in 16 mm. Filter by depth and width to find the right cover panel for your plan.

Find a cover panel in 16 mm thickness
Within the 16 mm thickness, two dimensions lead to the right cover panel: depth and width. The depth depends on the carcass the panel covers, and the width depends on the length of the cabinet run.
Filter by depth
The depth depends on the carcass the panel covers. It follows two standard values. 37.4 cm fits sideboards and midi cabinets. 58.5 cm fits tall cabinets and highboards. Both values are slightly greater than the carcass depth so that the panel finishes flush with the front. For island kitchens and projecting plans, the depth can be configured variably from 25 cm to 117 cm. The factory provides the cut-to-size panel.
Filter by width
The width depends on the cabinet run. Fixed widths cover a single cabinet. 48.2 cm fits the dishwasher conversion unit. 60 cm fits the standard highboard. The lacquered series finishes entire highboard runs and comes in four fixed increments from 93.6 cm to 183.6 cm. For a continuous cabinet run, choose the freely cut-to-size laminate series. It extends up to 258 cm and is cut at the factory to the exact dimension.

What a 16 mm cover panel is
A cover panel in 16 mm thickness is the standard version among Nobilia cover panels. The thickness describes the panel's thickness, not its depth or width. 16 mm equals 1.6 cm. A slimmer thickness is only available in 10 mm. The 25 mm and 50 mm thicknesses are more substantial. At the upper edge of the cabinet, 16 mm creates a medium-height material edge. It appears neither deliberately slim nor deliberately massive and therefore suits most kitchen styles. 16 mm is the only thickness to combine all eight finish groups, from matte laminate decor to ultra-high-gloss lacquer. That is why it offers the largest selection of designs, finishes and colors.
Which cover panels fit your cabinets?
Cover panels in 16 mm thickness come in two materials. Laminate is coated and offers the largest selection of decors. Lacquer comes in matte and high-gloss shades. There are also two special forms. Sakura is a design line in Como Oak reproduction. The glass side panel finish forms the top surface in kitchens with glass side panels.
Many cover panels are available in front colours. In addition, they are available in worktop decors and carcass colours. This allows you to match the panel to the surface it is intended to coordinate with in your kitchen. Within laminate and lacquer, the cover panels are then arranged according to the cabinet types for which they are manufactured.
Laminate cover panels
The laminate cover panels in 16 mm thickness consist of a panel coated on both sides with a polymer edge at the front and sides. In this construction, both types are the same. They differ only in how the width is defined. The first type comes in fixed widths for individual highboards and tall cabinets. The second type is cut freely to size and therefore also covers sideboards and entire cabinet runs.
For highboards and tall cabinets
This cover panel comes in a fixed width and covers highboards and tall cabinets. The laminate panel is coated on both sides. At the front and sides, it has a polymer edge. The depth is 58.5 cm and can be adjusted up to 60 cm if required.
Three fixed widths are available. 48.2 cm covers a dishwasher conversion unit with a cabinet width of 45 cm. 60 cm fits a highboard with a width of 60 cm. 63.2 cm covers a dishwasher conversion unit with a cabinet width of 60 cm.
Both dishwasher conversion units receive a panel that is wider than the cabinet itself. The highboard is covered at the same width.
Dimensions:
Width: 48.2 cm ▪ 60 cm ▪ 63.2 cm
Depth: Variable from 58.5 cm to 60 cm
Thickness: 1 cm
For sideboards, highboards and tall cabinets
This cover panel is planned to size and covers sideboards, highboards and tall cabinets. The laminate panel is coated on both sides. At the front and sides, it has a polymer edge. The width is cut continuously from 25 cm to 258 cm.
Three classes are available for the depth. A depth of 37.4 cm fits sideboards and midi cabinets. A depth of 58.5 cm fits highboards and tall cabinets. A depth of 117 cm fits islands and projecting plans.
The three depths are each the standard delivery dimension of the class. Within the selected class, the depth can be matched continuously to the exact carcass dimension.
Dimensions:
Width: 25 cm to 258 cm
Depth: 37.4 cm ▪ 58.5 cm ▪ 117 cm
Thickness: 1 cm
Lacquer
The lacquer cover panels in 16 mm thickness consist of a panel lacquered on both sides with a lacquered edge at the front and sides. In this construction, both types are the same. Both come in fixed widths and differ in whether they cover a single cabinet or a run. The first type covers a single highboard or a tall cabinet. The second type comes in four wider sizes for entire runs.
For highboards and tall cabinets
This cover panel is the lacquered version for a single highboard or a single tall cabinet. The panel is lacquered on both sides. At the front and sides, it has a lacquered edge. This means the panel adopts the look of lacquered fronts and remains in the same material as the kitchen.
The width is fixed at 63.6 cm. The depth is 58.5 cm and can be adjusted up to 60 cm.
If the panel is shortened to a smaller width, the cut edge receives a polymer edge. At that point, it is not lacquered.
Dimensions:
Width: 63.6 cm
Depth: 58.5 cm to 60 cm
Thickness: 1.6 cm
For sideboards, highboards and tall cabinets
This cover panel covers entire cabinet runs in one piece. The panel is lacquered on both sides. At the front and sides, it has a lacquered edge. This means the panel remains in the same material as a lacquered front.
Four fixed widths are available, from 93.6 cm to 183.6 cm. The standard depth is 58.5 cm for highboards and tall cabinets. It can be reduced to 25 cm and then also covers sideboards.
If the width is shortened, the cut edge receives a polymer edge. At that point, it is not lacquered.
Dimensions:
Width: 93.6 cm ▪ 123.6 cm ▪ 153.6 cm ▪ 183.6 cm
Depth: 25 cm to 60 cm
Thickness: 1.6 cm
Cover panels for special layouts
Two cover panels in 16 mm thickness do not follow the classification by material, but instead belong to a specific layout. One is part of the Sakura design line. Anyone planning their kitchen in this line gets the matching cover panel with it. The other belongs to kitchens with glass end panels and forms the upper finish there. So which of the two is suitable is determined not by the material, but by the design concept of your kitchen.
Cover panels for Sakura
With the Sakura cover panel, you finish the top side of your highboard, tall cabinet or sideboard in Como Oak reproduction. The panel is coated on both sides in decor 362 Como Oak reproduction. There is a polymer edge at the front and sides. Three depths are available, each matched to the extra-deep Sakura side panels that project as a frame beyond the carcass edge.
The Sakura design line combines side panels, cover panels and the Slim-Line worktop APSLNS61 into a closed frame look in wood decor. The surface-mounted handle rail 315 in Como Oak is a fixed part of the configuration. Sakura is not available for the ranges Cascada 684, Frame 419, Inline 526, Nordic 782, Pura 917 and Sylt 706.
Dimensions
Depth: 39.4 cm ▪ 50.5 cm ▪ 60.5 cm
Length: 25 cm to 258 cm
Thickness: 1.6 cm
Cover panel for end layouts under glass end panels
This cover panel is intended for kitchens planned with glass end panels. It forms the top covering surface at the end directly beneath the glass end panel. The laminated panel is coated on both sides. Unlike the other designs, the polymer edge here encloses all four sides of the panel.
This design is available exclusively in a thickness of 16 mm. No end solution for glass end panels exists in any other thickness.
Five depths are available. A depth of 58.5 cm matches the standard glass end panel. The deeper dimensions up to 107 cm are coordinated with the glass end panels used in room planning, for example on an island. The width ranges from 30 cm to 65.2 cm.
Dimensions
Width: Variable from 30 cm to 65.2 cm
Depth: 58.5 cm ▪ 62.3 cm ▪ 81.1 cm ▪ 95.9 cm ▪ 107 cm
Thickness: 1.6 cm

How to plan your 16 mm cover panel
A cover panel in 16 mm thickness is not planned solely by material, color and dimensions. How the panel is connected to the worktop, how its edges run, and which cut-outs the factory handles are just as much part of the planning. Some of these points are tied to the 16 mm thickness. Others also apply to thinner or thicker panels, but are just as important for the 16 mm thickness.
Connection with the Slim Line worktop
The Slim Line worktop from Nobilia is 16 mm thick and therefore exactly matches the thickness of a 16 mm cover panel. This becomes important wherever both components meet in the kitchen. The APSL-NF tongue-and-groove joint firmly connects the corners of Slim Line worktops and 16 mm cover panels. It is supplied with screw fittings, tongues and waterproof glue. For the corner joint, the factory plans in an additional dimension, i.e. an extra length required by the joint at the corner. For a right-angled corner, this allowance is 0.5 cm as standard. This creates a continuously flat line between the worktop and cover panel in the same thickness, without a step at the transition edge.
LED spots in the underside of the wall cabinet
A cover panel in 16 mm thickness can be mounted to the underside of wall cabinets and forms the underside there, i.e. the visible lower surface of the cabinets. Nobilia can mill LED spots into this underside. The spots evenly illuminate the work surface below.
This recessed lighting requires a material thickness of at least 16 mm. Only from this thickness onward is the panel deep enough for the LED spots to be recessed with the necessary milling depth.
Adjustments to the cover panel
Beveling and rounding edges
The front edge and the two side edges of a cover panel in 16 mm thickness can be beveled or rounded for an additional charge. Both types of machining retain the polymer edge, i.e. the closed plastic edge protection. There is a fixed rule for the corners. The factory supplies right-angled outer corners as standard with square corners. Right-angled inner corners and all non-standard angles receive an inner radius of 3 cm. Different versions are possible by arrangement. A rounded edge is also coordinated with the open end shelf.
Z-shaped bevel and notch
In addition to the straight bevel, a cover panel in 16 mm thickness can also be given a Z-shaped bevel or a notch. The Z-shaped bevel guides the edge in two offset steps. The notch removes a rectangular corner from the panel so that the panel can be routed around a projection or a pillar. Both types of machining are fitted with a polymer edge at the front and sides and are available at an additional charge. For the Z-shaped version, include a slight lateral overhang of 1.5 mm in your planning. The same rule applies to the corners as for the simple bevel. Right-angled outer corners remain square, while right-angled inner corners and non-standard angles receive an inner radius of 3 cm.
Applying edging to the rear edge
As standard, a cover panel in 16 mm thickness has the polymer edge on the front and on both sides. The rear edge remains unbanded because in most layouts it faces the wall and is not visible there. For a freestanding panel or on an open side, the rear edge can also be banded for an additional charge. Nobilia charges for this additional edge banding per 10 cm of length, with a minimum order quantity of 60 cm.
Cut-out for a countertop washbasin
A cut-out for a countertop washbasin can be machined into a cover panel in 16 mm thickness for an additional charge. A countertop washbasin is a basin that sits on top of the panel and is not recessed into it. This machining is available for cover panels in 16 mm, 25 mm and 50 mm thickness.
AP-AUS
Corner joint with tongue-and-groove connection
Two cover panels in 16 mm thickness can be joined by tongue and groove to form a continuous corner surface. The connection carries the short designation APSL-NF and is part of the Slim Line. The scope of delivery includes screw fittings, tongues and waterproof glue, so the corner joint can be installed on site without additional material. A tongue-and-groove joint requires an additional dimension at extra cost, which is included in the planning. For a right-angled corner, the standard additional dimension is 5 mm.
Installation
The installation of a cover panel in 16 mm thickness can be followed in two workshop videos.
The first video follows the installation on a highboard. It first shows how the cover panel is cut out for the LGADB ventilation grille, and then the fastening of the panel onto the highboard carcass.
The second video demonstrates the tongue-and-groove joint on two worktops. Nobilia also uses the same principle in production to join cover panels that are planned around a corner. For a cover panel in 16 mm thickness, this task is handled by the APSL-NF joint.

About the manufacturer Nobilia
About Nobilia
Nobilia is a family-owned company from Verl that has been building kitchen furniture since 1945 and now manufactures at four locations in Germany. Your cover panel therefore goes through the same production process as the cabinets it finishes on top. Because panel, front, and carcass all come from one manufacturer, their décors and color shades match exactly.
Tested quality at Nobilia
Nobilia tests how a 16 mm thick cover panel holds up in everyday use in its own QM testing laboratory. There, the company tests furniture, components, and materials for their suitability for daily use over 15 years. A cover panel is one of these components. The panel material is subject to the same tests.
In addition to the internal tests, independent seals confirm the quality. TÜV Rheinland tests every program in the collection with the GS mark for tested safety, the only legally regulated test mark for product safety in Europe. The German Furniture Quality Association also awards the RAL quality mark Goldenes M, which is carried by all furniture leaving the factory. Nobilia’s quality management has also been certified to ISO 9001 since 1994. These tests apply to the entire collection. The 16 mm thick cover panel is no exception.
Sustainability at Nobilia
A 16 mm thick cover panel consists of an engineered wood board, and strict emission requirements apply to this material at Nobilia. Nobilia uses only wood-based materials that meet the formaldehyde standard TSCA Title VI of the US Environmental Protection Agency. Its limit values correspond to the Californian CARB2 standard, one of the strictest requirements worldwide for low formaldehyde emissions. Some of the wood-based materials are also tested to the Japanese F-Four-Star standard, which goes even beyond CARB2.
The furniture in the collection carries the highest emission class A according to RAL-RG 437 of the German Furniture Quality Association. The wood for the wood-based materials comes from PEFC-certified sources, meaning sustainably managed forests. This means the cover panel you are planning for your cabinet is also part of a production process that operates according to tested environmental and emission standards.
Find the right 16 mm cover panel
Select the matching cover panel in 16 mm thickness using the filter at the top of the page. You need two measurements for this: the depth and the width of your cabinet carcass. Add the overhang to both measurements, which is how far the cover panel extends beyond the carcass. Enter both values in the filter. The remaining cover panels are the ones that fit your cabinet.
