Nobilia cornice top panels and cornice mouldings for cover panels

A cornice top panel closes off your wall cabinet run at the top. Nobilia manufactures it in three constructions. The classic cornice top panel has an integrated mounting for the cornice moulding. The cover panel used as a cornice top panel comes in your kitchen’s front decors and ends without a profiled edge. The bridge panel closes gaps between freestanding wall cabinets. Corner versions and a projecting connecting cornice top panel are used in corner layouts and stepped depths within the cabinet run. All constructions are produced in the same Nobilia factory in Verl as your wall cabinets and carry CARB2 as the highest level of low formaldehyde emissions.

Find cornice shelves

Two dimensions determine the right cornice shelf: depth and width. The depth follows your wall cabinet carcass and the desired overhang beyond the cabinet front edge. The width depends on the cabinet run or the individual corner cabinet that is to be finished at the top. In the two filters below, select the values that match your configuration

Filter by depth

The depth depends on the component the cornice shelf is finishing. For a straight run of wall cabinets, it corresponds to the carcass depth of your wall cabinet. For corner connections and corner cabinets, the depths are greater and cover the respective corner dimension. For cover panels used as cornice shelves, you select the depth within a range depending on the desired overhang beyond the cabinet front.

Filter by width

When it comes to width, there are two cases. Corner shelves, over-cabinet shelves, and connecting cornice shelves have a fixed dimension that corresponds to the respective design. For a continuous cornice shelf over a run of wall cabinets, you choose a running length from a range that covers your entire cabinet run.

Nobilia cornice moulding and cornice top panel for wall cabinets and tall cabinets

What are a cornice top panel and a cornice top panel?

A cornice top panel is the horizontal panel that sits on top of your wall cabinet run and closes it off at the top. It lies visibly on top of the cabinet row and either carries an integrated mounting for the cornice moulding or runs as a plain cover panel without a profiled edge.

The cornice moulding is the visible profiled edge at the front edge of the classic cornice top panel. Its shaped line defines the upper style of the cabinet run and is a dominant design feature in country-style kitchens.

Which crown top panels fit your cabinets?

Which design suits your layout depends on three questions. Does your cabinet run in a straight line or around a corner? Does it carry a crown molding or does it do without one? Does the panel finish off a continuous run or a gap between freestanding wall cabinets? The answers lead you to the right design below.

Nobilia crown top panel with crown molding groove

Crown top panel with crown molding groove

The KB crown top panel is a carcass panel with a factory-machined groove for the crown molding along the front longitudinal edge. The three depths match wall cabinet depth of 35 cm, highboards and tall units in 56 cm, and deep cabinet runs up to 120 cm deep. In width, the crown top panel is made to measure so that several cabinets standing side by side can be finished with one continuous panel.

For freestanding cabinet runs that are visible from both sides as room dividers, the KBB crown top panel has the crown molding groove at the front and rear.

The 5 mm transparent spacer profile 2652 is inserted between the crown top panel and the crown molding to close the joint at the connecting edge.

Dimensions

  • Width: variable from 25 cm to 340 cm

  • Depth: 35 cm ▪ 56 cm to 120 cm

  • Thickness: 1.6 cm

Corner crown top panel for corner layouts

The overhead panel WZB closes gaps between wall cabinets or creates a window top panel. At 35 cm deep and with carcass material in the same color on both sides, it sits flush with the standard wall cabinet side depth. WZB60 is 60 cm wide, while WZB260 is cut to the desired length between 25 cm and 258 cm.

If two wall cabinets meet in a room corner, the WZBE corner overhead panel covers the connection across the corner.

Dimensions

  • Width: 60 cm ▪ 90 cm ▪ 105 cm ▪ 258 cm

  • Depth: 35 cm ▪ 60 cm ▪ 90 cm ▪ 105 cm

  • Thickness: 1.6 cm

Nobilia projected connecting crown top panel

Projected connecting crown top panel

The KBE corner crown top panel finishes wall cabinet runs that meet in a room corner with one continuous panel. The tongue-and-groove connection on the left and right joins the corner crown top panel to the adjoining crown top panels so that the crown molding continues around the corner without being split there.

  • Two corner dimensions cover the common configurations. KBE 90 for a 90 cm × 90 cm corner dimension, KBE 105 for 105 cm × 105 cm.

  • In the T variants, the panel surface continues through to the inner corner. The standard variants without T are cut away there.

Dimensions

  • Corner dimension: 90 cm × 90 cm ▪ 105 cm × 105 cm

  • Thickness: 1.6 cm

Nobilia cover panel in 16 mm as a crown top panel

Cover panel in 16 mm as a crown top panel

The cover panel in 16 mm thickness serves as a crown top panel if your layout does without crown molding. Unlike the KB family, it is supplied in your kitchen’s front finishes and is coated on both sides so that the cabinet top edge and the underside match the fronts in color.

If the rear edge of the panel remains visible, choose KBWB16-38 or KBWB16-59 with an all-round polymer edge. The standard KBW variants have edging only at the front and sides.

Dimensions

  • Width: variable from 25 cm to 258 cm

  • Depth: 25 cm to 38.2 cm ▪ 38.3 cm to 58.5 cm

  • Thickness: 1.6 cm

Nobilia cover panel in 25 mm as a crown top panel

Cover panel in 25 mm as a crown top panel

The cover panel in 25 mm thickness is the more substantial crown top panel variant. The greater thickness creates a visible horizontal line above the cabinet run. Like the 16 mm variant, it is supplied in your kitchen’s front finishes and is coated on both sides.

If the rear edge of the panel remains visible, choose KBWB25-38 or KBWB25-59 with an all-round polymer edge. The standard KBW variants have edging only at the front and sides.

Dimensions

  • Width: variable from 25 cm to 258 cm

  • Depth: 25 cm to 38.2 cm ▪ 38.3 cm to 58.5 cm

  • Thickness: 2.5 cm

Nobilia overhead panel and corner overhead pa

Overhead panel and corner overhead panel

The overhead panel WZB closes gaps between wall cabinets or creates a window top panel. At 35 cm deep and with carcass material in the same color on both sides, it sits flush with the standard wall cabinet side depth. It is 60 cm wide or can be cut variably between 25 cm and 258 cm.

If two wall cabinets meet in a room corner, the WZBE corner overhead panel covers the connection across the corner. Three corner dimensions in 60, 90, and 105 cm are available. The shallower 35 cm depth variant is used for asymmetrical corner configurations.

The WZBW mounting bracket secures freestanding overhead structures to the wall and comes 5 cm wide with screws and wall plugs.

Dimensions

  • Width: 60 cm ▪ 90 cm ▪ 105 cm ▪ variable from 25 cm to 258 cm

  • Depth: 35 cm ▪ 60 cm ▪ 90 cm ▪ 105 cm

  • Thickness: 1.6 cm

Planning knowledge

The cornice moulding and cornice top panel are cut to the floor plan of your cabinet run at the factory and glued together. You plan the run length along the wall, and the factory automatically adds the allowances for mitres and wall connections. For each mitre joint at an external corner, 20 cm of profile length is added; for each wall connection, 3 cm. The total length of the cornice moulding is rounded up to the next 10 cm.

The cornice return is the straight end piece that neatly finishes the profiled edge at a free cabinet end. It is supplied together with the cornice moulding from the same profile family and is factory-fitted butt-jointed to the moulding.

For the cornice top panel, the factory plans a support width of at least 20 cm in addition to the run length of the cabinet row so that the panel rests cleanly on the carcass. The carcass panel is calculated to the full cornice moulding length so that panel and moulding align exactly.

Frequently asked questions about cornice top panels

The installation situation determines the appropriate profile solution at the end of a wall cabinet run. If the cabinet adjoins a wall and there is no lateral space for the natural profile overhang of the cornice moulding, the cornice return is used. It is the straight version of the profile without lateral overhang. If the cabinet run ends freely into the room, the cornice moulding extends with its overhang. Depending on the selected profile, the overhang ranges from 6 mm for KLA to 55 mm for KLC.

What else to order with your Nobilia kitchen

Crown moldings

The crown molding sits on top of the classic crown top panel in the groove provided for it and defines the style of a country-style kitchen. Two profile families are available, the straight standard profile and the shaped country-style profile, each in lengths of 360 cm or 400 cm.

Cornice returns

A cornice return is the straight end piece that neatly finishes the profiled edge of the cornice moulding at a wall termination or an external corner. A separate return is available for each profile family of cornice mouldings so that the profile line ends consistently at every endpoint of your cabinet run.

Adjustments to the cover panel

Chamfers and rounded edges on cover panels

The ADB-AS surcharge chamfers the edge of your cover panel or rounds it off if the standard right-angled version does not fit. The adjustment applies to cover panels in 10 mm, 16 mm, and 25 mm thickness and affects the polymer edge at the front and sides. A typical planning situation is connection to an end shelf that also has a rounded edge.

Outer corners at 90° remain angular in the standard version. Inner corners and non-standard angles are manufactured with an inner radius of 3 cm so that the edge runs cleanly through the corner. Custom angles are also possible; ask about this during planning.

Z-shaped chamfer or cut-out

The ADB-ZS surcharge manufactures your cover panel in 10 mm, 16 mm, or 25 mm thickness with a Z-shaped offset or a cut-out so that it neatly avoids an obstacle such as a column, a projection, or an offset wall. The polymer edge at the front and sides remains intact.

With the Z shape, a lateral overhang of 1.5 mm is created, which is taken into account when planning the adjacent furniture. Outer corners at 90° remain angular in the standard version; inner corners and non-standard angles are manufactured with an inner radius of 3 cm. Custom angles are also possible; ask about this during planning.

Non-right-angled corner joints

The KBWG surcharge joins two cover panels at a non-right-angled corner. The adjustment can be planned for panels in 10 mm, 16 mm, or 25 mm thickness. A typical planning situation is a kitchen with a sloping wall or a peninsula with an asymmetrical connection, where the cover panels meet at 45° or another custom angle.

The corner joint is cut in the factory to match the exact angle of your floor plan, so that the polymer edge of both panels meets without a visible joint.

About the manufacturer Nobilia

About Nobilia

Nobilia is a family-owned company from Verl that has been building kitchen furniture since 1945 and now manufactures at four locations in Germany. Your crown top panel therefore runs through the same production process as the wall cabinets it finishes at the top. Because the panel, crown molding, and cabinet carcass all come from a single source, the finish and color tone match exactly at every joint edge. This is especially noticeable in a country-style kitchen, because the crown molding defines the style and no color nuance may break the look.

Nobilia quality lab tests the durability of cornice top panels

Tested quality at Nobilia

A cornice top panel remains visibly on top of your wall cabinet run for 15 years. Nobilia simulates precisely this long-term wear in its in-house QM testing laboratory in Verl on furniture and components. Cornice top panels, cover panels, and their edge coatings are also subject to these tests.

Four independent forms of evidence support the internal standard. TÜV Rheinland awards the GS mark for tested safety, the only legally regulated test seal in Europe. The German Furniture Quality Association awards the RAL quality mark Goldenes M to every Nobilia piece of furniture. Quality management has been certified to ISO 9001 since 1994. The wood-based materials achieve CARB2 as the highest level of low formaldehyde emissions.

Sustainability at Nobilia

A cover panel with a thickness of 16 mm consists of a wood-based panel, and strict emission requirements apply to this material at Nobilia. Nobilia uses only wood-based materials that meet the formaldehyde standard TSCA Title VI of the US Environmental Protection Agency. Its limit values correspond to the Californian CARB2 standard, one of the strictest requirements worldwide for low formaldehyde emissions. Some of the wood-based materials are also tested according to the Japanese F-Four-Star standard, which goes even beyond CARB2.

The furniture in the collection carries the highest emission class A according to RAL-RG 437 of the German Furniture Quality Association. The wood for the wood-based materials comes from PEFC-certified sources, i.e. sustainably managed forests. This means that the cover panel you plan for your cabinet is also part of a production process that operates according to verified environmental and emission standards.

Find the right cornice top panel

You select the right cornice top panel using the filter at the top of the page. You need three details for this. The construction type distinguishes between a cornice top panel with integrated cornice moulding and a cover panel as a cornice top panel without a profiled edge. The depth corresponds to the carcass depth of your wall cabinet, plus allowance for any overhang if needed. The run length is based on the total width of your cabinet row. Enter the three details in the filter. The remaining cornice top panels will be the ones that match your plan.
