Standard or XL: Which highboard height suits your kitchen?
The height of the highboard shelf depends on your kitchen cabinet run. Nobilia builds base cabinets and wall cabinets in two height systems: standard with 72 cm base and 72 cm wall cabinets, XL with 79 cm base and 79 cm wall cabinets. The highboard shelf must match the system. A 151 cm shelf in an XL run breaks the line. A 158 cm shelf in a standard run looks just as wrong.
Standard 151 cm
Your base cabinets are 72 cm high. The work surface is at standard height. The 151 cm highboard shelf connects proportionally and keeps the lines consistent throughout the entire run.
XL 158 cm
Your base cabinets are 79 cm high. The XL run offers 10% more storage space than the standard kitchen. The 158 cm highboard shelf fits proportionally. In addition, taking out plates and bowls is at a more comfortable working height, especially for taller people.
Why an open shelf does more than just another cabinet
Closed cabinets hide what you have. The highboard shelf shows it. Plates, glasses, and bowls are directly in view, without opening doors. It also makes the run look lighter, because open shelves create less visual weight in the room than closed cabinet fronts. The shelf automatically adopts the front color of your Nobilia range. The line remains consistent.

Highboard end shelves
You want to finish your tall cabinet or highboard run harmoniously while creating open storage space. The Nobilia highboard end shelf is diagonally beveled at the front, creating a subtle transition at the end of the run. Three fixed shelves offer space for dishes or decorative objects. It adopts the shelf color of your Nobilia range and must be installed together with the adjacent cabinet. When ordering, please specify left or right hinge side.

Highboard country house shelves
You want to finish your country-style kitchen harmoniously with an open shelf. The Nobilia country-style highboard end shelf has attached decorative columns, called pilasters, and three fixed shelves for dishes or decorative objects. It adopts the front color of your kitchen range and is available to match Nordic, Cascada, Sylt, and Chalet. The pilaster design depends on the range. The shelf must be installed together with the adjacent cabinet. When ordering, please specify left or right hinge side.

Tested Nobilia quality
Nobilia cabinet elements are tested in the company’s own QM testing laboratory for a minimum service life of 15 years. The shelf withstands daily kitchen use over many years. The carcasses are made of 16 mm chipboard, coated on both sides with melamine resin. The surface is moisture-resistant and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Nobilia is certified according to ISO 9001, 50001, and 14001 and is tested by TÜV Rheinland.
Nobilia and sustainability
Nobilia was the first kitchen manufacturer to be PEFC-certified. The wood used for the carcasses comes from sustainably managed forests. All materials comply with TSCA Title VI and CARB2 standards for low-emission production. Nobilia achieves the highest emission class A of the German Furniture Quality Association. The carbon-neutral GOGREEN service is part of the standard delivery.
