Types & variants

Material

Nobilia niche back panels are based on a robust MDF board refined with hard-wearing laminate. The result is a kitchen back panel used as a splashback that either matches the worktop tone-on-tone or deliberately creates a modern contrast to the fronts. With a thickness of 16 mm and a maximum length of 258 cm per piece, niche cladding in the kitchen can be planned continuously – ideal for a calm, high-quality overall appearance.

Standard version

In the standard version, the NV54, NV70 and NV203 models are among the most popular Nobilia niche claddings. With a height of 53.7 cm, the niche back panel is ideal as a classic splashback in the kitchen. A height of 70 cm is the standard behind extractor hoods and can be planned to size flexibly in widths from 25 to 258 cm. The tall version up to 203 cm covers entire niches or walls and creates a calm overall look – with wood and stone reproductions always featuring a horizontal grain direction. Visually, you can choose from matt decors in all carcass colours, numerous worktop and front shades, Xtra decors such as basalt, Artisan oak or grey slate, elegant high-gloss surfaces from white high gloss to black high gloss, as well as variants in stainless steel look, bronze metallic or yellow-gold colour. Practical niche shelves can also be integrated for additional storage space and a perfectly thought-out kitchen back panel.

Niche claddings with motif

For individual kitchen back panel ideas, Nobilia offers niche cladding with motif (NVM) in high-quality digital print. The 16 mm thick panels are coated on both sides, edged all around and can be custom-ordered in widths from 25 to 280 cm – when adjusting, the motif is cut from the right. The Nobilia niche back panel with motif is available in many designs, e.g. Metro White/Black, Loft, Light Stone Wall, Light Brick, Ceramic Tiles, Indigo Blue, Floral blue/grey, Chess, Beach, Iconic Flowers, Urban Jungle, Golden Art or Rhombus grey/gold, as well as mirror, bronze and wood looks such as Oak Line light/natural. One highlight is decor 435 Flower, where the base colour can be adapted to Nobilia carcass colours such as Alpine White, White, Magnolia, Silk Grey or Stone Grey. The NVM54 version is designed for niches under wall units. The NVM70, meanwhile, is suitable as an easy-care splashback for extractor hoods.

For anyone who wants to create a particularly textured look with their niche cladding in the kitchen or living area, there is the niche back panel with 3D structure in a modern wood-panel look. The panels, coated on both sides, feature a tactile vertical structure on the front, are edged all around and visually resemble elegant acoustic panels. With widths from 25 to 204 cm and a maximum height of 277 cm, this Nobilia niche cladding is suitable not only as a kitchen back panel, but also perfectly for wardrobes or living room walls. Available 3D digital print decors include Kaleidoscope Black, Faro mosaic tile, Como herringbone oak, Sierra oak wall panel, Olive wood texture or Natural Terrazzo, as well as Stripewood variants in Dark, Light, Slate Grey or Taupe. The heights NVMDS54 and NVMDS70 are ideal for niches under wall units or extractor hoods, while NVMDS277 can be used as a full-surface wall panel in the living or entrance area.

This Nobilia glass niche back panel is available in either high-gloss or mirrored finish and is ideal as an easy-care, hygienic splashback in the kitchen. A wide range of glass colours is available, such as silver, white, black, silk grey, alpine white, stone grey, slate grey, magnolia or sand high gloss, as well as variants in glass look. Special highlights include Masterflow Black (057) and Relief Glass Black (092), which add modern accents behind the hob and worktop with their striking appearance.

Quartz niches

For particularly high-end kitchen planning, Nobilia offers niche back panels made of quartz stone, matching the quartz worktops of the same name. The quartz niche cladding, only 12 mm thick, looks modern and understated while being extremely robust and easy to care for – ideal as a kitchen splashback. Standard heights of 56.3 cm and 70 cm as well as widths from 25 to 300 cm allow continuous planning. A modern finish with a height of just 30 cm is also possible. With the quartz wall end profile NVQ (5 cm high, 10–150 cm long, optionally at half height 30 cm) or the wall end profile WAC, the Nobilia quartz niche back panel can be finished neatly and visually coordinated with the worktop. Available niche colours include elegant shades such as Epic Raw, Epic Black, Epic White, Epic Easy Clay and Epic Ash Grain.

Ceramic niches

For particularly modern kitchen planning, Nobilia offers Xtra Ceramic niche back panels (NVC) with heights from 30.1 to 55.9 cm and a maximum width of 310 cm. They can be planned as continuous niche cladding or as a high-quality tiled splashback – visually matching the worktop or deliberately contrasting with it. Available niche colours include Venato Bianco, Venato Nero, Fossil Grey, Metal Oxis, Stone Oak, Plain Black, Belgian Blue Stone, as well as concrete reproductions in Silk Grey, White or Sand. This gives your kitchen back panel an individual yet very easy-care splashback.

How good is the quality?

Installation of Nobilia niche claddings

Installing a Nobilia niche back panel is simple, but should be carried out carefully to achieve a permanently clean result. The panels are best glued directly onto the plaster using mounting adhesive. Wallpaper should be removed beforehand to ensure optimum adhesion. Make sure there is a clean silicone joint in the worktop colour so that no moisture can get behind the niche cladding. For a technically neat finish, Nobilia recommends using a wall end profile (WAPN) or niche profile (NKPU).

Important: Gas hobs require at least 10 cm distance from the niche back panel – when planning with a gas hob, an extra-deep worktop from 70 cm should be used.

For tempered safety glass niche panels, cut-outs are always made at the factory, as on-site cutting is not possible. Niche claddings with a wood carrier board, on the other hand, can be cut to fit on site during installation.

Lighting for niche back panels

For a functional and harmonious niche cladding in the kitchen, the right niche lighting plays a major role.

LINERO-MosaiQ

With the LINERO-MosaiQ system, Nobilia offers an aluminium profile with an integrated LED light strip that also serves as a niche finishing and connecting profile. The scope of delivery includes end caps for left and right as well as screws and wall plugs. LINERO-MosaiQ is approved for numerous Nobilia niche back panels – including NV*, NVH*, NVM*, NVMDS* and NVG120 – and can ideally be combined with profiles such as WAPN, NPUK, NKPU, NKPA or NKP. This creates modern, even illumination of the work surface while also providing a neat technical finish.

LED niche light Derby II

The Derby II LED niche light is available as an additional option. The aluminium profile in stainless steel look or black is equipped with an LED light strip (12 V DC, 2700–6500 K) and has a 200 cm connection cable to the starter set. Thanks to protection class IP44, Derby II is ideal for use in the kitchen. It is mounted under worktops – e.g. in combination with glass side panels or the Smartcube base unit shelf – or under mirrored cabinets, effectively showcasing the kitchen back panel as well as the work area.

Accessories for niche back panels

For a clean, durable finish to Nobilia niche cladding, planning should always be done in combination with suitable profiles. The NPUK, NKPU and WAPN systems have proven particularly effective, protecting the edges of the kitchen back panel, compensating for movement and reliably keeping out moisture.

Plastic cover profile

The NPUK plastic cover profile in a translucent look is suitable for niche or back panel claddings with a thickness of 16 mm. It is self-adhesive, 500 cm long and protrudes only 1.6 cm – ideal for an unobtrusive, neat finish at the top or side.

Lower niche profile

The NKPU lower niche profile is a two-part aluminium profile with sealing profile and can be used as a lower finish or as a wall end. With a height of 1.7 cm and a depth of 2 cm, it provides a stable, tight connection between the worktop and splashback in the kitchen. Available in stainless steel look (014) or black (010), and with an installation height of 4 mm, it blends discreetly into modern planning.

Wall end profile

For continuous solutions, the WAPN wall end profile is used. The two-part plastic profile with sealing lip and upright sealing profile is 2.5 cm high and 2.5 cm deep, is supplied in bar form (special length 500 cm) and protrudes 4 mm on the worktop in the lower profile. Here too, the colours stainless steel look (014) and black (010) are available – perfect for a continuous, visually calm line along the entire niche back panel.

Nobilia niche shelves

Niche shelves make use of areas that would otherwise remain unused and create practical storage space exactly where it is needed. Whether as an open shelf, a corner solution or with a flap: small kitchen appliances, chopping boards or knives are neatly stored behind the front and remain within easy reach. With an installation depth of only 125 mm, the shelves fit into almost any niche and are available in many carcass colours – ideal for a harmonious overall look and maximum space optimisation.

FAQ

A niche back panel – often also called niche cladding or kitchen back panel – is the covering of the wall area between the worktop and wall units or behind the hob. It protects the wall from grease, water and food splashes while also creating a calm, continuous kitchen look.

Depending on the version, a Nobilia niche back panel is made, for example, of laminate on an MDF carrier board, glass, quartz or Xtra Ceramic, and can be planned to visually match the worktop or deliberately provide contrast. This turns a purely functional surface into an important design element in your kitchen.
